X3F (Sigma Foveon RAW) is Sigma's proprietary RAW format for cameras using the Foveon X3 sensor — a unique 3-layer stacked sensor that captures RGB color information at every pixel, unlike Bayer array sensors. X3F is used in Sigma DP Merrill, DP Quattro, SD Quattro, and fp series cameras. The Foveon sensor produces unique tonality and detail but requires specialized processing.
