PCX is the original PC Paintbrush format from the DOS era — one of the first widely used digital image formats. PCX files from vintage software, old games, and archived documents can't be opened in modern apps. PixelForge converts PCX to PNG, JPG, WebP, or any format in your browser.
PCX (PC Paintbrush Exchange) was developed by ZSoft Corporation for PC Paintbrush software in 1985. It was one of the first widely adopted digital image formats for DOS PCs and was used extensively in early Windows software, games, clip art, and document imaging. PCX uses RLE (Run-Length Encoding) compression. It supports up to 24-bit color but is largely obsolete today.
